SBB CargoFertransOn behalf of the rail logistics operator Fertrans, SBB Cargo transports more than 60 million glass bottles from Italy directly to Rheinfeden (Switzerland) into the siding of Feldschlösschen. The empty bottles are delivered by truck to the platform Camnago-Lentate where they are loaded into train wagons. With the switch to rail transport between Italy to Switzerland, 600 transports by truck are brought from the road onto the railway and the environment is released by 200 tonnes of CO2 per year Steel producerSBB Cargo will transport 40,000 tonnes of steel through the Alps for a big steel producer company each year. Switching transalpine steel transport from road to rail is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 2,400 tonnes each year (source: EcoTransIT). The client supplies metal-based components, systems and integrated systems to the construction and engineering industries. The company has a wide selection of metal products and services. SNCFThe STVA Group is a logistic solutions supplier for the automotive sector of finished vehicles. Managing a park of 4 000 cars and 865 convoys cars carriers, the Transport Society of Automotive Vehicles is a key figure on the market of the vehicles distribution in Europe. Determinedly engaged in a perspective of sustainability, the Direction of Quality Methods and Environment is in charge of leading the Group’s sustainable development policy, one of the main directions of its policy being the decrease of CO2 emissions generated by the transportation activities. Keeping in mind that it is necessary to measure before acting, having a reliable and complete tool becomes essential. That is why, after a complete benchmark of the existing European tools, Ecotransit was selected to calculate the CO2 emissions of the railroad mode on a daily basis (with no less than 240 requests during the first half of the year 2008, STVA is one of the most important French users!). According to Mr Lupoglazoff, in charge of the sustainable development at STVA, several arguments justify this choice:
