They have been created in 2015 by the leading freight forwarding consultancy in Europe. Today they’re flying on their own wings, with 140 people working on carbon, cost and quality issues and covering all transportation modes and countries.

Their 3 smart modules Carbon, Quality and Cost are all based on primary data that can come from any kind of transportation data sources such as shippers ERP or TMS or carriers’ operations or invoicing systems.
With the Carbon module, they provide a reliable measurement of GHG emissions taking into account operations reality, even if information or data are incomplete.
Carbon is made of 3 functionalities:

  • PURE is the calculation tool
  • FOOTPRINT is the GHG emissions dedicated dashboards
  • TRANSFORM is the simulation tool

The aim is to provide a full package for decarbonizing transport by combining:

  • Accurate calculation
  • Management of transport activities

The integration of EcoTransIT World

Our methodology is a bottom-up approach based on fuel consumption estimation.
This allows us to be more precise in the calculation by taking into account shipment per shipment the transport scheme specificities, but it also presupposes the availability of a great deal of information (such as vehicle size, energy type, empty trip factor, load factor, etc.), which in reality is very scarce.
To overcome this issue about information availability, they have built a model of European network (from parcels to groupage, domestic and international – GLEC certified) that makes available any kind of information that is necessary to precisely calculate emissions even if raw data is weak or incomplete.
In order to provide a uniform emissions calculation and management service for any scope or type of transport, they have built together this partnership with EcoTransIT World for any other kind of transportation type than road European network transportation:

  • Data are collected, normalized and enriched by Sightness’ Carbon and IT teams
  • Calculation specifications are made by Sightness’ Carbon team based on data collection, transport plan interviews and transportation expertise
  • Specifications are developed and automatically send via API to EcoTransIt World or Sightness’s network tool by Sightness’ IT team
  • GHG emissions results are received, checked and made available in a standard or specific dashboard to the user by Sightness’ Carbon team
  • Users are helped to understand and monitor results by Sightness’ Carbon and CSM teams

Key features of their platform

There is no calculation methodology or certification today that can guarantee that the GHG emissions transmitted by carriers or LSPs are comparable from one player to another, unless calculation is based on real fuel consumption, and even then, allocation per shipment and shippers is still an issue.
