A Smart Cooperation – MoU with SFC (GLEC)

Smart Freight Centre (GLEC) and EcoTransIT World signed Memorandum of Understanding

It is one of the biggest aims of EcoTransIT World (ETW) to align the emission calculations of our users while at the same time we also consider other initiatives for cooperation and knowledge exchange.

Now, we are pleased to announce our latest cooperation partner Smart Freight Centre (SFC) with whom we signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). SFC is a global non-profit organisation working to remove barriers to a more efficient and environmentally sustainable freight and logistics sector and which initiated the Global Logistics Emissions Council Framework (GLEC) as a voluntary partnership of companies, industry associations and green freight programs.

Together, ETW and SFC aim to improve the calculation of emission footprints for freight transport with the intention of helping the sector to reduce its environmental impact. This cooperation will increase the efficiency of both organisations. ETW and SFC have cooperated for some time, particularly as many ETW users are involved in the implementation of the GLEC framework.

With the MoU, we would like to enlarge and strengthen this cooperation. As a first step, SFC acknowledged that ETW’s interpretation of EN16258 can be used to calculate values as a substitute solution in the situation where actual measurements of carrier fuel consumption are not available. SFC acknowledged that ETW will go a step forward and offer an option for users to directly enter fuel and consignment data according to the preferred approach of the GLEC Framework if requested. Furthermore, the full inclusion of the Clean Cargo Working Group (CCWG) methodology in the business solution as an option in ETW is an important development towards closer alignment across transport modes.

In addition to GLEC based carrier data and factors, the generic approach of ETW is able to perfectly fill gaps based according to a strong, neutral and scientific methodology.
